Our wonderful residents at Alan Morkill House got moving to the music on 20th July 2026, as our team brought everyone together for a Music and Movement session designed to make gentle exercise enjoyable and accessible.
Thirteen of our residents joined the session, throwing and catching a large inflatable ball while music played in the background. It was a simple activity, but one that encouraged everyone to move at their own pace while enjoying plenty of interaction and laughter along the way.
One of our residents summed it up perfectly:
“It really got me moving! I loved the music!”
For us at Alan Morkill House, encouraging movement is not about taking a one-size-fits-all approach. We want our residents to stay active in ways that suit their individual abilities, interests and preferences, whether that means joining a Music and Movement session, dancing to a favourite song or simply getting involved in an activity they enjoy.
That approach extends across our wider activities programme too. Recently, our residents have enjoyed a friendly game of bingo, spent time with Peanut the Cockapoo during a pet therapy visit and come together with loved ones for our Father’s Day Tea Party.
Each activity offers something different, from encouraging movement and coordination to keeping minds engaged, supporting social connection and simply giving our residents something to look forward to. By getting to know the people who live with us, our activities team can offer opportunities that feel meaningful to them and support active ageing in a way that is personal, enjoyable and inclusive.
