Are you one of those special people who dedicates their own free time, to enhance the lives of others? Then the Gold Care Homes volunteer programme could be just what you are looking for.

How does it work?

Volunteers work alongside our paid staff but the role they play is very different. Volunteers choose to spend some of their own free time, engaging with and enriching the lives of our residents in a variety of different ways. This could be sharing a talent or a skill with them, offering them friendship, or participating in activities and outings.

By choosing to spend some of their spare time with our residents in our care homes, volunteers also help us to build better links with our local communities and keep our residents connected to the people and places they have always belonged.

Every volunteer is unique, but one thing they all have in common is a shared passion for helping others, and as we always say at Gold Care Homes, bringing the residents in our care joy, happiness, and fulfilment.

Ways to volunteer

There are many ways you can volunteer your time and what you do depends on the things you enjoy doing yourself; your hobbies and interests and of course, the time you are able to commit to your volunteering role.

You may have a particular skill, such as crafting or singing or you may enjoy fitness, such as yoga or Tai Chi, all of which can be used to enhance the lives of others.

You might run a Bridge or Whist club, or love puzzles and board games, something many of our residents enjoy.

Alternatively, you may just want to offer your time and companionship to sit and enjoy a cuppa with people who may not receive frequent visitors owing to family living in different parts of the UK or abroad.

There are many ways to get involved with volunteering at Gold Care Homes but here are some of the ways you can make a difference: –

  • Gardening – Start a gardening club with our green-fingered residents, creating hanging baskets, flower arrangements or growing vegetables in our raised beds.
  • Entertainment – Hosting sing-a-longs, talks or demonstrations.
  • Craft skills – knitting, card-making, crocheting, painting etc.
  • Befriending – spending time getting to know residents and reminiscing with them.
  • Accompanying – helping to take people on outings or transporting them to appointments.
