At Brackenbridge House, we do love a themed celebration, and St George’s Day gave everyone a chance to get involved.
The celebrations actually began in the days leading up to the event, with residents, relatives and our team coming together to make decorations by hand. Flags, swords and shields slowly started to take shape, with everyone adding their own touches along the way. It became just as much about the conversations and teamwork as the finished creations themselves.
On the day, the home had a lovely buzz to it. Our wonderful residents gathered with family members and staff for tea, cake and plenty of singing, with old songs sparking memories and getting people joining in where they could. There was also a St George’s Day quiz, which brought a bit of friendly competition and lots of laughter.
One of the biggest highlights turned out to be the handmade St George’s sword and shield, carefully crafted by our wonderful team. Residents including John, Eric, Irene and Ashley enjoyed posing for photos with them, bringing plenty of smiles and adding a bit of fun to the day. Here are just a few of our favourite moments captured from the day:

For many residents, it was the simple things that stood out most, sitting together over tea and cake, singing familiar songs and sharing stories sparked by the occasion.
Home Manager Florencia Gamino reflected on the day, sharing:
“Our St George’s Day celebration at Brackenbridge House was a fantastic opportunity to bring residents, staff and families together. The activities encouraged engagement, sparked conversation and created a real sense of unity. I’m grateful to the team for creating such a wonderful atmosphere for everyone.”
At Brackenbridge House, themed events are something we really enjoy. They bring the whole home together, residents, families and team members alike, and create opportunities to be creative, social and have a bit of fun together. Often, it is those shared moments that residents remember most.
