September was a busy and meaningful month at Lansdowne Care Home, as we came together with our residents, families, colleagues and local community to support two important causes: World Alzheimer’s Month and Coffee Mornings for Macmillan Cancer Support.
To recognise World Alzheimer’s Month, around 25 residents and members of our team took part in a dementia and Alzheimer’s awareness session.
Led by Laura Steward, Head of Dementia and Lifestyle Champion, alongside colleagues Yasar, Miranda and Jyotsana, the session included quizzes and interactive activities to encourage everyone to learn more about dementia and share their thoughts in a relaxed setting.
Our residents particularly enjoyed getting involved in the quizzes, with Cornelia describing the activities as both fun and interesting. The session also encouraged conversation and opportunities to share memories.

Later in September, we opened our doors for our Macmillan Coffee Morning, welcoming around 50 residents, relatives, colleagues and local guests.
We were pleased to be joined by the Mayor of Barnet, Sarah Sackman MP, local councillors and representatives from Age UK Barnet, who came along to support the occasion.
Alongside plenty of cake, tea and conversation, guests enjoyed a live violin performance from Maria Constanza Velez, which proved particularly popular with our residents.
One of our lovely residents, Mahin told us they “loved the music”, while Betty said it was “lovely to have everyone together”.
But the biggest achievement of the morning was the amount raised. Thanks to everyone’s generosity, we raised an amazing £190 for Macmillan Cancer Support!

Supporting causes that matter to our community
At Lansdowne Care Home, we believe it’s important to give our residents opportunities to get involved in causes they care about, whether that’s raising awareness, supporting a charity or welcoming people from our local community into the home and September gave us the chance to do all three.
A big thank you to Laura and our team for organising the dementia awareness session, and to everyone who attended, donated or helped with our Macmillan Coffee Morning.
We’re particularly proud of the £190 raised for Macmillan and grateful to our residents, families and local community for helping us achieve it.
