We got a little creative at Norwood Green Care Home on 24th September, celebrating National Day of Arts in Care Homes with a colourful yarn art session.
Our residents, including Philomena, Pamela and Owen, joined us to explore different colours, shapes and textures, using yarn to create their own designs.
With plenty of colourful materials to choose from, everyone had the freedom to experiment and make something of their own, with a helping hand from our team whenever needed.
We also had some music playing in the background and enjoyed a glass of white grape juice while chatting and working on our creations.
Here are a few of our favourite photos from the session:

One of our favourite moments came when Philomena was exploring the different colours and textures of the yarn, which reminded her of something from her childhood.
“I like these colours, they’re so soft. It reminds me of my mum knitting.”
It was lovely to hear Philomena share that memory, and a reminder of how familiar materials and activities can encourage conversations about our residents’ lives and experiences.
Our Home Manager, Miguel, shared:
“I absolutely loved seeing everyone get involved in this session. It was colourful and creative and gave everyone the chance to do things in their own way.”
At Norwood Green, we love giving our residents opportunities to express themselves creatively, whether that’s through art, music, crafts or trying something completely new.
National Day of Arts in Care Homes was a great excuse to get our creative materials out, try a different technique and enjoy seeing everyone’s individual ideas come together!
