In January 2026, our wonderful residents at Brackenbridge House took part in a fun and engaging sensory activity designed to support coordination, concentration, and fine motor skills.
The activity involved a specially created cardboard chicken game, featuring a colourful chicken face attached to a box. Residents were invited to “feed” the chicken by carefully guiding small beads around the box and tilting it gently until the beads dropped into the chicken’s mouth. The task was completed without touching the beads directly, encouraging residents to focus on controlled movements, eye–hand coordination, and touch sensitivity.
The activity proved both enjoyable and beneficial, with residents concentrating closely as they guided the beads into place. The playful design of the chicken sparked smiles, laughter, and conversation, creating a relaxed and positive atmosphere throughout the home.
Our team supported residents during the session, ensuring everyone could take part at their own pace and feel a sense of achievement. The activity offered gentle cognitive stimulation while also promoting physical coordination in an accessible and engaging way.
Residents shared their enjoyment of the session:
- Anthony said with a smile: “You really have to concentrate to get the beads in. It was good fun.”
- Janet commented: “I liked how colourful it was. It makes you focus without feeling rushed.”
- Glenfield said the activity was enjoyable and engaging, adding that he liked watching the beads move as he tilted the box.
- John Burnaby shared: “It’s nice to do something a bit different. It keeps your hands and eyes working together.”
Our Deputy Manager commented on the activity:
“We are always looking for creative ways to support our residents’ wellbeing. This activity was a wonderful example of how something simple and fun can help improve focus, coordination, and sensory engagement, while also bringing plenty of smiles.”
