Working in care is a very demanding and responsible job, no two days are the same and the reality of dealing with an enormous array of tasks and responsibilities can sometimes be overwhelming. But it can also be one of the most rewarding and inspiring vocations, from supporting families and their loved ones, to helping individuals with their personal development and career progression. One thing that is paramount to achieving a successful care home, is teamwork, driven via great leadership.
Our amazing family members at St Stephen’s Care Home work hard to continuously raise the standard of care provided and constantly bring joy and happiness to all residents. This is reflected in the recent achievement of a GOOD rated CQC inspection. https://bit.ly/3FI0LX9

St Stephen’s Home Manager Berni has worked in care for over 30 years starting as a carer in a nursing home and then moving into home care, where she worked her way up to be a Registered Manager in 2003. A few years later, Berni became a Registered Manager for a residential care home in Lincolnshire and has recently moved back to the area to be near her family.
Berni is very passionate about care delivery and finds it both a pleasure and an honour to work with the elderly and those that require additional support. Berni said “I will personally make sure that the happiness, health and overall well-being of all residents and staff is maintained in every way possible and am committed to making further improvements to develop our home and the care we provide.”
Stephen, Maintenance Officer
I have been working at Gold Care Homes for 9 months, having previously worked as a Prison Officer. I have learnt about the demands of working in a care environment, how tasks need to be completed within short timescales and the importance of getting it right first time. I take pride in my work, I enjoy fixing things and solving problems and ultimately care that both the residents and my team members have a safe and homely environment to work and live in.
Lauren, Senior Care Assistant
I have followed in both my grandmother and mothers footsteps, working in a variety of care roles from domestic, care assistant and activities co-ordinator, for nearly 7 years. The care needs of residents are likely to change from day-to-day, so you need to be adaptable, flexible and willing to fit into any role. I enjoy planning and am constantly learning new skills. I love socialising with all the residents and make it my mission to spread a little joy to their day to the best of my abilities.
I have worked in recruitment, HR and administration within the care industry and have been with the team at St Stephen’s Care Home since February 2021. The role is extremely busy, you have to be able to multi-task and be good at solving problems quickly. The work can be a little hectic at times, but if you are a patient person, it can be very rewarding and you are able to gain qualifications whilst working.
Kerry, Activities Co-ordinator
I used to run a Guest House business with my husband for 21 years. After visiting my Mum at St Stephen’s Care Home, I knew that I would find working in care very rewarding. I love seeing the smiles and laughter from our residents and am constantly planning and preparing for the next activity we can offer them. I am a sociable person and bring fun to the whole team, it is great to have made so many new connections and see first hand the joy that the simple things in life can bring.
