Hillside enriching the lives of those in respite care

The team at Hillside understand the challenges families can face when caring for an older person or someone living with dementia and offer families the support and opportunity to recoup and recharge whilst their loved one is cared for in a safe, homely and welcoming environment.

They provide good care and support, an array of daily activities, freshly prepared home cooked food and comfortable and relaxing facilities, making a respite break a pleasurable one.

The Elridge family, who recently placed their Mum in respite care for 5 weeks at Hillside gave testament to the team, not only in providing excellent care, but also in supporting the whole family.

“Dear Maribelle, Linda and the whole Hillside Team – We wanted to send a note to thank you for all the love, support and care shown to my Mum, Dad and whole family over the last few weeks.

 Whilst she was only with you for 5 weeks we couldn’t have asked for any more from the whole team. In our first visit we were told that we should ignore the ‘rough edges and need for a coat of paint here or there’ and that the care she would receive would be second to none. You certainly delivered that.

 Whilst you cared for our Mum, the support and compassion you showed to Dad and the rest of us, we will always be grateful for. You threw us a little 50th anniversary for my parents, made us tea when we were down, were a shoulder to cry on and were always there to talk when needed.

Whilst this has been a very difficult time for us, you have made things more bearable. You should be very proud of your team, they are very special people.

 I have sent a small gift to share amongst the team, but that only allowed me to add a message that has 200 characters – which was no where near covering what I wanted to say. Please accept our thanks and gratitude.”


Hillside Home Manager Maribelle, is a qualified Nurse and has over ten years of experience in the health care industry. Maribelle was a finalist for Outstanding Leadership Award at the Gold Care Home Awards, where she was recognised for showing exceptional leadership and support. She has inspired her team to go above and beyond their general duties. This is reflected in the fact that two other Hillside team members were also finalists for awards.

Dolores, a compassionate Carer, has worked at Gold Care Homes for three years and was a finalist for the Best Carer Award. Dolores is dedicated, passionate and supportive to all her team members at Hillside. She has a positive attitude and provides exceptional care to all her residents.

Aresenio was a finalist for Best Nurse Award, whereby he was recognised for going above and beyond providing personalised care.

The team at Hillside deliver care that makes their residents feel happy and fulfilled every day, and they treated as part of the family.

Maribelle said: “Our staff members and residents are all one big family, it’s so important to celebrate special occasions and to make each and every individual feel cared for and loved. Our team always go that extra mile to make every day as memorable as possible.”

My late wife stayed in the Acton Care Home from the end of April 2018 until 21 September 2018 on which day she died there. In that time my wife was looked after in an excellent manner. All the nurses who cared for my wife were excellent, very professional and also very warm and friendly. My wife’s dignity was totally respected. It’s hard to describe the happiness you feel in this building. The staff really care. I called Dad the other day and could hear music, when I asked him what it was he laughed and said they sing and dance, it makes us laugh. Sums it up really. If you want a home that goes the extra mile in every area then I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Bletchley House. Improvements have been made to the home and continue to be ongoing. I visit my Aunt on average three to four times a year and I always notify the staff at Burrows House of my forthcoming visit. Each time I visit I am constantly impressed by the care and kindness towards my Aunt by the staff, all staff. Her physical care is excellent. She is well presented. She is treated with dignity. The staff understand her needs and appear to know her well. Her room is cosy and clean.

Staff have been very supportive to Mum, who has struggled to settle in. Mum has now made new friends and her health and wellbeing have greatly improved. The facilities are fantastic and Mum reports the food is lovely. The staff communicates well and always keeps me informed and updated.

We got in touch with St Katherine’s for respite care for Mum when she was extremely unwell with dehydration. They were extremely compassionate and helpful to us when we were in a situation that we were finding difficult to deal with.
