Malcolm Scott, who suffered from Covid at the start of lockdown, has recently returned home after being nursed back to health by the team at Heath Lodge in Welwyn, Hertfordshire.
Malcolm was admitted to Heath Lodge’s Covid Recovery Unit following his discharge from hospital, as he needed full time care to recover from a variety of complex conditions. The team created a complete care plan for Malcolm, which has aided his recovery.
Malcolm has praised the whole team for the excellent level of care he received during his stay, and in particular wanted to personally thank carer Nigil for his contribution.
Nigil cared for Malcolm for several months, providing both physical and psychological support, encouragement and companionship. With Nigil’s gentle tender love, patience and quality care, Malcolm’s health started to improve. His pressure ulcers healed, he gradually increased his nutritional and fluid intake building up strength and mobility and eventually started to socialise within communal area’s of the home.
Malcolm said “I arrived at Heath Lodge at the start of lockdown Covid 19. I could not walk or breathe very well, but with the help of the carers, I improved gradually, whereby I satisfied the therapy team with my mobility without any aids. My appetite improved and I increased my weight by 2 stones. All my personal hygiene needs were aided by the carers, who, were most obliging to my requests. I am leaving Heath Lodge to re-join my family, after to me a long period, and with many happy days, but still there is no place like home”.
Prarthana Bhandari, Care Home Manager for Heath Lodge: “The whole team assisted in Malcolm’s recovery and we are pleased to see the fantastic progress he has made. I’m grateful for my team’s dedication and compassion and I am very proud to be able to highlight Nigil’s individual part in Malcolm’s recovery. Nigil has excellent personal attributes, he is kind, caring, approachable and understanding, which is why he was recognised and rewarded as Employee of the Month. We were overjoyed when Malcolm presented him with his certificate, thanking him and wishing him well in his future career.”
Nigil was honoured to receive Employee of the Month from Malcolm and is thrilled he has been able to re-unite with his family at home.
Adrian Pancott CEO said “We are all delighted Malcolm has made an excellent recovery and wish him good health. It is testament to the dedication, kindness and compassion Heath Lodge demonstrates and it is privilege to have such wonderful individuals working as a team within the Gold Care family.”
