Additional Information

The home aims to provide a good quality of life for all whom live here, enabling each resident to live with peace of mind knowing an experienced member of staff is always nearby. At Willowmead you will get to know all the staff as friends. We will identify a particular person who will be able to help you with personal things you need, such as bathing, shopping, writing letters and helping you to mix with other Residents. The term we use to describe this person is a ‘Key Worker’.

Accommodation:
You can make the room your own by bringing pieces of furniture and other belongings with you. You can have a key to your room. There is also a bedside locker with a lockable drawer for you to keep small valuables in. Staff and visitors will not enter your room unless invited by you. Your room is your personal space. You may use it as you choose. Domestic staff will negotiate with you a convenient time to clean your room. However, it has to be recognised that some people have a legal right to inspect any part of a residential care home. Our home also has some double rooms for married couples or if preferred rooms next to each other can be allocated.

Lounge and dining area:
Wickham House has a lounge/dining area and Hatfield House has a large lounge and a small lounge as well as a separate dining room.

Meals:
Residents have a choice from the daily menu and if a resident is not happy with the options then an alternative can be provided. Likes and dislikes about food can be raised at resident’s meetings and discussed with you on admission. We have very experienced cooks who can provide special diets.  Every effort will be made to meet your medical and cultural needs. We also try to be as flexible as possible for all meals. Arrangements can be made if you want to go out and are unable to return in time for a meal.  You can choose to miss a meal or request a snack at another time.

Activities:
The activities organiser arranges regular outings and activities in which you can take part such as theatres and public house visits. We have a Knitting Circle, a flower arranging circle and a church visit provides regular services. We also arrange regular entertainment and fundraising events. Your suggestions are always welcome.

Services:
We provide individual personal care that you need, including a laundry service and social activities and are able to arrange hairdressing facilities, chiropody, dental care, eye care and hearing tests.

Hairdressing: We have visiting hairdressers operating in our own salon usually on Wednesday and Thursday.

Laundry: We provide a laundry service in the home. Bed linen is always changed on a regular basis. Personal clothing is laundered as and when you require. All clothing will need to be labelled and both machine washable and be able to be tumble dryed.

GP: It is a good idea to discuss this with your GP before you move in whether you need to change GP's. Our staff will also be of assistance if you need to change. Our local GP visits one day a week as well as when called out.

Medication: I
f you want us to look after your medicine we will.  Sometimes your doctor may recommend that you let us deal with this for you.

Telephone Service: You may have your own telephone installed in your room at your expense if you wish or you can have a mobile phone.

Visitors:
Your family and friends can come to see you anytime you like, and continue to be involved in your care if that is what you want.  Guests can have a meal with you by prior arrangement.  A nominal charge will be made for this service. Tea and coffee are available to visitors – just ask a member of staff.

Other Information:
You may find it difficult leaving a home, which holds many memories, but it is essential that you consider all the alternatives carefully. If you do decide to make your home with us we will give you the support you need during this difficult time.

Living at Willowmead can be a positive experience enabling you to make life more interesting and exciting with a positive future in front of you.
