RESIDENTS NEWSLETTER

Hello everybody and welcome to the Willowmead Summer newsletter. The holiday period is well and truly here and I hope everyone who reads this newsletter will find something really enjoyable and refreshing to do over the summer.

I feel that we have a lot of news to share with you so let’s begin.Firstly a quick reflection on our activities over recent months. We’ve been entertained by some super acts – Peter King, Saul Watts, Jacqui Dean, It Takes Two, Desert Springs and Allison Austin to name just a few. They will all be back for you to either see again, or to enjoy for the first time.Watch the notice boards and remember that you are all so welcome to come and join us for an afternoon.

One comment I hear from so many of our visiting entertainers is that the residents at Willowmead are such a fantastic audience to sing to.What a super compliment and I feel so well deserved. You really are quite wonderful!!

We’ve also had two very successful evening outings to a local pub for supper and to enjoy watching local Morris Dancing groups. On both occasions the weather was perfect, we were made to feel so welcome by the pub landlord, and the dancing was on a typically English village green. We weren’t invited to join in (thankfully), we just sat back and enjoyed ourselves!

More recently we had an excellent ‘Fund Raising’ afternoon and what can I say except to thank each and every one of you – residents, relatives and friends – for your tremendous support. We raised just over £200.00 which we will be putting towards the Willowmead Summer Hog Roast! Special thanks go to Peter King and his wife Eve for being so generous with their time and for their splendid entertainment. It was a very happy afternoon.

Moving on, have you noticed our studding bus stop and shelter – designed and constructed by Richard – our talented handyperson. On a lovely sunny day our residents can happily sit in the shelter, have a chat and wait . . . as we have all done at some time . . .wait for the bus that never comes!

Now a word about our beautiful tactile garden. It’s finished and it’s fabulous!Do take a few moments to wander through and enjoy the sensation of peace and calm.I’m sure you all appreciate the importance of the garden to our residents. The simple pleasures of the fresh air, the birds singing, and the very beautiful plants and equally beautiful setting all contribute to that very important feel good factor. It really is a lovely garden for us to share with you, so do make the most of it.

We are still contributing knitted squares for blankets destined for Bulgaria. This ongoing project is hugely successful, so if anyone has the urge to knit a square or two the instructions are simple – number 8 (4mm) needles, approximately 40 stitches, double knitting wool to make a 7” square.Once you get started it’s quite addictive and surprisingly satisfying and our efforts are so greatly appreciated.

Here’s a little thought I came across recently

LIVE FOR TODAY

Don’t let your heart be burdened by the cares of yesterday

Keep the happy memories and throw the rest away.

Don’t be afraid or anxious over what the future holds

It’s enough to simply live each day as it unfolds.
