Additional Information

The Tudors offers personal centred care in a home from home environment for those in need of residential care. The Tudors also caters for people who suffer from dementia and dementia related confusion and memory deficit. A staff ratio appropriate for us to meet the extensive needs of this client group enables us to ensure that the requirements are met for each individual in our care.

We welcome both males and females, usually over the age of 65. However we are able to admit service users of a younger age as long as we can meet their needs.  This accommodation is not suitable for older people whose needs can be met in their own home.

Accommodation:
All bedrooms are furnished with a bed, wardrobe, chairs, chest of drawers and bedside cabinet, however, you will be encouraged to personalise your room to make it your own. In consultation with the Manager you may wish to bring small items of furniture. Personal mementoes, such as photographs, pictures and ornaments, are all items that help to personalise a room and make it comfortably yours. The bedrooms are a minimum of 12.8 sqm and have ensuite shower facilities and are light and spacious. There is a television point in all bedrooms if you want to bring a television with you.

Lounge and dining area:
Each unit has its own lounge and dining room. Each lounge has a large screen television for communal viewing.  All electrical equipment must be checked by the home’s maintenance man before use. There is a kitchenette so that drinks and snacks are available throughout the day.  Visitors may also use the kitchenettes to make drinks.

Meals:
The Tudors operates a revolving four week menu which incorporates resident’s favourites and all home cooked food. Menus are displayed in each foyer daily and are reviewed seasonally with our residents committee. Meals are served in the dining room but if you prefer you may chose to eat in the privacy of your own room.  We offer a choice of home cooked food for every meal.  We also cater for special dietary requirements. Snacks are available throughout the day and we have a Nite Bite Menu in case you wake up during the night feeling peckish.

Activities:
You will be offered the opportunity to participate in social and recreational activities. Popular activities include music and movement, artwork including collages, quiz time, baking and reminiscence to daily living activities encouraging residents to maintain their independence. All care staff are involved with stimulation as well as our activity organiser who is instrumental in the planning of events and getting to know the past times of all our residents. Entertainers regularly visit the home as well as the Nene family church that assist with meeting residents spiritual needs.

If you have dementia our staff are trained to provide activities which you will enjoy too – this may be reminiscence (such as looking at your old photos and talking about your past), or helping you to continue to be independent if you wish and continue to do some of the domestic tasks for yourself, for example making your bed or dusting your room.  If you are restricted to bed staff will spend time reading to you, chatting, doing manicures and other one to one activities as enjoyed by you.

The home has secluded landscaped gardens and a sensory garden for you to make use of.  You might also enjoy helping in the garden with planting and maintaining the hanging baskets and other flower beds or simply enjoy time outside under a parasol. A sensory garden is provided for residents to explore their five senses (touch, taste, sight, sound and smell). All the gardens are wheelchair accessible and you can go out and sit in one of the several seating areas or simply just enjoy the fresh air.

Social events such as Christmas party, Easter bonnet competition or summer fete will be held on a regular basis and advertised beforehand.  Your relatives and friends are welcome to join in.

The Home offers assistance to anybody wishing to practice his or her chosen faith. This may mean an accompanied visit to a place of worship or organising someone to make a visit to the Home. If you would like to continue attending your local church then it may be possible for one of your congregation to collect you. The Tudors is able to offer quiet areas for spiritual reflection if you wish to practice your faith in that manner.

Services:

Optician: A visiting optician comes to The Tudors or you may prefer to see your own optician. The optician is independent of Gold Care Homes so any cost associated with this service is payable directly to the optician. The optician can engrave glasses with your name for safety if you wish.  As glasses can easily be misplaced it is best to get this done.

The dentist is independent of Gold Care Homes so any cost associated with this service is payable directly to the dentist.  We do, however, check qualifications, CRB and public liability insurance. The dentist can engrave dentures with your name for safety if you wish.  Dentures are important and occasionally get mislaid so it is best to get this done.

Chiropodist: We have a chiropodist who visits the home every 8 weeks.  If you would like your feet to be attended to by a qualified practitioner please let your keyworker know and he/she will arrange this for you. The chiropodist is independent of Gold Care Homes who charges £10. We do, however, check qualifications, CRB and public liability insurance. The administrator will collect the money and pay the chiropodist.

Hearing Tests:
Hearing tests can be arranged with a private audiologist or for NHS treatment via your GP.

Laundry: We provide a laundry service within the home. Your bed linen is always changed on a weekly basis and your personal clothing can be laundered as and when you require it. All your clothing will need to be labelled to avoid it getting lost and mixed with other resident clothing. Every care is taken to ensure that all items sent for laundering are treated appropriately. We also suggest that you do not bring woollen clothing or garments which need dry cleaning as we do not have facilities to deal with them. You will need to ask a relative or friend to have cleaned for you any items which require special care.

Telephone Service: We can arrange for a private line to be installed in your room which is for your sole, private use for which you will be billed direct.  Please let us know if you require this service.  We have a mobile phone unit which can be brought to your room when you need to make or receive calls in private.

Hairdresser: The hairdressers for unit one is Carol, she visits on a Wednesday, usually from around 10am. The hairdresser for unit two is Sue, she visits on a Monday afternoon. Prices are available in the home. Please let your keyworker know if you would like them to make you an appointment with either hairdresser.  The administrator will collect the money each week to pay the hairdresser. The hairdresser is independent from Gold Care Homes. We do, however, check qualifications, CRB and public liability insurance.

Newspaper & Magazines: If you would like to have a daily paper delivered or your favourite magazine the administrator can order this for you from Stanground News. One days notice is required to make arrangements. The cost is billed on a monthly basis and the administrator will collect the money each month to pay the newsagent.

Medication: At The Tudors we have staff who are specially trained in giving medication and are happy to manage your medication for you.  All your medication must be handed in to the keyworker.  It must be properly labelled by the pharmacist. The labels must have proper dosage instructions for staff to follow – we can not accept any medication or creams which say “as directed by your doctor” or “take as required”. If you normally manage your own medication and want to continue to do so you will be given a lockable area in your room to safely store your medication.

Hospital Appointments: We will provide a staff escort, subject to staff availability, to pre-booked hospital appointments for which a charge will be made. If you are admitted to hospital as an emergency we are only able to supply a staff escort, subject to staff availability, before 7 00 pm.  We will, however, contact as soon as possible your next of kin in order that they can meet you at the hospital if they wish.

Visitors:
There are no set times for visits to the Home, but visiting is at the discretion of the senior person on duty at the time. People are encouraged to visit as often as they wish and to continue to be involved in your care. You may entertain your visitors in the communal areas or go to your room if you wish to be undisturbed. Refreshments are available on request. Your visitors may share a meal with you for a nominal charge and it is requested that these are booked a day in advance.

Other Information:
The Tudors also has a support group for families of residents with dementia etc. Quarterly newsletters keep relatives and friends up dated and our optional monthly report ensures you keep informed on your loved ones care.
