St Katharine’s House is a 76 bedded Residential and Nursing home which is set in spacious and picturesque grounds. We strive to offer services that are of the highest standard and are tailored to meet individual needs, incorporating specific wishes and choices. We seek to provide stimulation and encouragement for each resident, thus enabling them to fulfil their physical, psychological, emotional, social and spiritual needs and to assist them to retain their independence. The House lies in 5 acres of spacious grounds, only ten minutes walk from the Wantage shopping centre, library and Parish Church. There is a beautiful Chapel attached to the House, where Eucharist is celebrated regularly. We have four sisters from the Anglican Community of St Mary the Virgin who reside in St Katharine’s house.

About the staff

Experience and qualifications of management team.

Manager:
Michele Williams is the Home Manager at St Katharine’s House since 2011. She is a State Enrolled Nurse (Mental), Registered Mental Nurse & has achieved her NVQ Level 4 &5 in Management.

Michele has 15 years experience in Care Home Management, and before joining Gold Care Homes she was managing a 70 bedded, dual registered home in Port Talbot, South Wales, where she was for 7 years.

During this time, Michele was a ‘Senior Manager’ which involved visiting homes to carryout ’Provider Visits’ and assisting managers to ensure their homes were compliant with current legislation.


Deputy Manager:

Lynn Gray is the Deputy Home Manager. She is a Registered Nurse and an experienced Care Manager. Lynn is based in St Luke's Nursing Wing.

 

 

Administrator:


Caron Fitzgerald is the Administrator at St Katharine’s House since 2011.  She has 26 years of experience, working in Local Government in various roles.  She has achieved her NVQ Level 2,3 & 4 in Administration, Level 3 in Management and CPP which is a Certificate in Professional Personnel. 




The staff team is made up with 7 Registered Nurses, and 36 care assistants. There is a mix of experience among the care staff - there are some with many years experience and others for whom working at St Katharine's House is their first care position. However, all are encourage to work towards awards in Health and Social Care.

There is an experienced Activities Co-ordinator and the home has membership of NAPA - the professional association for activities co-ordinators.

The non-care team consists of a head chef, cook and kitchen assistants who in addition to professional catering qualifications also undertake regular food hygiene training. The Housekeeper, her 6 domestic assistants and 2 laundry assistants do an excellent job in maintaining the high standards of cleanliness expected in the home and the team is completed by the maintenance person responsible for the day to day upkeep of the home and gardens.


Does the Home have...

A garden? There is 5 acres of landscaped gardens which have tarmac paths for both wheel chair use and those with rolators. Easily accessible to all, with benches placed around the property.
Any pets? No.
A Residents Committee? Yes. A Residents Forum is held every 3 months. Other Committees that the Residents are involved in include the diary committee, catering committee and gardening committee.
Wheelchair Accessible? Yes.
A lift? We have a lift but do not have a stair lift.


Additional Information

Accommodation:
Each resident has their own bed-sitting room (average area 14 sq metres), which they can furnish their rooms if they wish. The rooms all have built-in cupboards and washbasins with hot and cold water. Each room is also connected to the Nursing Wing by means of a call-bell and there is also a lift.

Lounge and dining area:
At St Katharine's House there are 4 lounges with great outlooks onto gardens. There is 3 seperate dining area's for residents to enjoy their meals.

Meals:
The catering department provides a varied menu catering for all dietary needs.

Activities:
There is a well stocked library, an activities room, music room and a computer room for the Residents to use when they wish. There are rooms within the house and nursing wing where the residents can meet/eat with their families. Residents also run a sweet shop as well as general store. The activities co-ordinator arranges a variety of activities for the nursing residents including, knitting, bingo, arts & crafts, garden walks, beauty sessions, short stories, keeping fit, skittles, poetry and reminiscence sessions. There is also visiting entertainers, music evenings, pub lunches, garden center trips, shopping and theatre trips which are organised when required by Activities. There is also an in house Shop opening every Thursday.

Services:
We can arrange for an optician, chiropodist and a hairdresser to come to the home. Audiologist and Dentist - there is a Hearing Clinic in the local Health Centre at the end of the month and the Dentist is a short distance away which transport can be organized when required.
