Staff working at Hillside receive training in caring for people with Dementia. The aim of this training is to teach staff the appropriate methods of caring for people with Dementia and to explore ways of maintaining their independence, dignity and choice and quality of life. Training looks at individualised and person centred care and shows staff that it is not the condition that matters, but the person behind the illness. It also looks at the life history of the Service User. The life history of people with dementia will reflect on how they are today. It also gives a better insight and understanding to the staff group and helps them to investigate ways of assisting the Service User more effectively and how to understand and alleviate some of the frustrations that can lead to the display of difficult behaviour.
