Halcyon Days is a 57 bedded Residential home which is situated in a rural village. The care that we offer is of a consistently high standard, ensuring that you retain your individuality, dignity and respect at all times. In the village there are 3 pubs, all of which serve food. Sainsbury’s is 1½ miles away. There is a bus service from Stevenage and Letchworth. We are about 1½ miles from Lister hospital. The home also has a landscaped garden, which contains areas of interest. All the gardens are wheelchair accessible and you can go out and sit in one of the several seating areas or simply just enjoy the fresh air.

About the staff
Experience and qualifications of management team.
Manager:
Dawn Richmond-Turner has worked at Halcyon Days since 1991. She has been the registered manager since 2005, prior to this she was the deputy manager. Dawn has NVQ 2 in care and level 3 in care management and a registered manager’s award. She also has a level 2 qualifications in dementia care, advanced medicines and health and safety. She also has various other qualifications in other relevant fields such as first aid. Dawn has also completed a management and leadership award.
Deputy Manager:
Ashling Turner is the deputy manager and has been at Halcyon Days since 2005, deputy since 2008. Ashling is currently doing her NVQ 4, she is ptlls trained, M&H instructor and is very passionate about her role. Ashling also won the Team Leader of the Year award at the HCPA Care Awards evening, July 2011.

Administrator:
Pam Oatway is the administrator and has been at Halcyon Days for 8 years. Pam started as a senior care assistant but was very involved in running of the house and became the administrator in 2005.
Senior Carers:
At Halcyon Days there are 6 senior carers, all with different backgrounds. They have achieved their Level 3 or on their way to having level 3. The ages range from 25-45. We also have 3 night staff who are acting seniors. All 30+ from different backgrounds all with level 3 or working towards it.

Additional Information
We provide the individual personal care that you need, including a laundry service and social activities. We are also able to arrange hairdressing facilities, chiropody, dental care and eye care for you.
Accommodation:
Halcyon Days is a 57 bedded care home with 3 double rooms and 54 single rooms. You can make your room as much like home as possible by bringing in small pieces of furniture and other personal belongings. Visitors are, of course, always welcome.
Lounge and dining area:
The home has one dining room and various areas in which you can relax and socialise with the other residents and receive visitors. You can make use of the privacy of your own room as you choose.
Meals:
Residents have a choice from the daily menu and if a resident is not happy with the options then an alternative can be provided. We also offer meals to suite specific dietary requirements. Meals are served in the dining room, but can also be served in your room upon request. We try to be as flexible as we can and arrangements can be made if you want to go out or are unable to return in time for a meal. You can also choose to miss a meal or request a snack at a different time. Tea, coffee, juice and snacks are available throughout the day at any time you want and a night time menu is also provided for you in your room, should you feel hungry at night. There is a tea/coffee making facility in the dining room should you or your visitors wish to make themselves a drink, alternatively the staff on duty will be happy to make you one. We have very experienced cooks who can provide a special diet for you should you require one.
Activities:
We have activities that cover everyone’s interests, hobbies and choices including outings, painting, art, quizzes, sing-along’s and gardening. A Support group is offered and we also have a Bridge group. The activities organiser arranges regular trips to the local shops where you can choose and purchase your own sweets, toiletries, birthday cards or other personal requirements.
A portable DVD player is available for loan to you. This will be kept in the small lounge where we keep our varied books selection which you may also loan at any time. We are hoping to also set up a DVD library here too.
Film evenings are coming to Halcyon Days. On Sunday evenings we will have a famous, much loved film and popcorn thrown in. Time and film choice will be available on activities board throughout the week prior to film showing.
Twice a month we have our regular visiting entertainer Jim who is a great singer and is always thoroughly enjoyed.
Once a month we will be having external entertainment either visiting our home or we will go out on trips. All upcoming events will be displayed via posters found on doors in main reception area and also the activities board located to the right of large lounge entrance door so you can always go and check what’s going on.
Regular meetings are held for residents and relatives. Halcyon Days also has a residents committee that get involved in the running of the house including recruitment of new staff.
Services:
Laundry: We provide a laundry service within the home. Your bed linen is always changed on a weekly basis and your personal clothing can be laundered as and when you require it. All your clothing will need to be labelled to avoid it getting lost and mixed with other resident clothing. Every care is taken to ensure that all items sent for laundering are treated appropriately.
Personal Funds: In your bedroom you are provided with a lockable drawer facility in which you can keep your valuables. The home administrator also has a system whereby she keeps an account for all your individual personal funds should you wish to not keep it in your room, or you have a large sum of money to look after. Alternatively you may prefer a relative to handle your personal funds.
Hairdressing: We have a visiting hairdresser who uses our very own onsite salon.
Telephone Service: There is a pay phone available and accepts 10p, 20p and 50p coins. Alternatively you can have your own personal phone connected in your room. This personal phone will need to be arranged either by you or a relative with BT.
Visitors:
There are no restricted visiting hours. Your relatives and friends can come and see you anytime they like and are encouraged to visit whenever it is convenient for you. Visitors can have a meal with you with prior arrangements a nominal charge will be made for this. Tea and coffee making facilities are available in the kitchen. Your relatives and friends are invited to attend meetings with the manager on a regular basis. Here they can raise any concerns and discuss ideas for improving services.
Other Information:
Halcyon Days is a lovely, homely, safe, comforting home for the elderly and we are expertly trained for Dementia care.
